Yonkers firefighters knew they couldn't save the building, but they could prevent the flames from spreading to the church attached to it.
And, that's just what 70-80 firefighters did early Tuesday at St. George Orthodox Church.
The main sanctuary was about a week away from opening and there was constuction underway, WABC reported.
Autorities are investigating if the fire was triggered by the renovation project.
The congregation is now working to get the church ready for Christmas services.
